● adventif, adventive adjectif (latin adventicus, inattendu) Se dit d'un organe végétal n'occupant pas sa position typique (par exemple racine adventive sur le côté d'une tige souterraine, bourgeon adventif non axillaire, etc.). Se dit des cônes et des cratères secondaires qui s'établissent sur les pentes d'un volcan. ● adventif, adventive (difficultés) adjectif (latin adventicus, inattendu) Sens Ne pas confondre ces deux mots proches par leur prononciation. 1. Adventice = qui survient accidentellement, qui s'ajoute accessoirement. Circonstances adventices ; remarques, notes adventices. Qui croît sur un terrain cultivé sans avoir été semé. Le chiendent, l'ivraie sont des plantes adventices. 2. Adventif, ive = qui se développe en un point où ne se trouvent pas habituellement d'organes de même nature, en parlant de certains organes végétaux. Bourgeons adventifs. Registre Adventice est littéraire ou technique ; adventif est technique.
